How Much Does it Cost to Move a Pole?

$1.7 million according to Cape Coral Design and Construction Manager Robert Creighton. This massive LCEC power pole is right at the edge of an intersection the city plans to convert into a roundabout.

The intersection is at the corner of NE 24th Avenue and Kismet Parkway in the northeast section of the city. Council member Rachel Kaduk lives in that district and says, “That power pole does cause a problem. This is a terrible intersection.” The added $1.7 million increases the cost to construct the roundabout to $5 million. The City did build a $2.9 million cushion into the cost until they received a final estimate to move the massive pole.

Williams and his team presented an alternative traffic plan to the Transportation Advisory Commissoin this week but they chose to stick with the roundabout and include the $1.7 to have the pole moved. The alternative traffic plan did not appear to be as safe as a roundabout according to several committee members. Committee member Bill Steinke said, “Let’s invest the money, do it right, and get it done on time. As it gets busier in that area, it’s an accident waiting to happen.”

The intersection is currently in the middle of the design phase which could take between 12 to 18 months. Construction would begin after that.
