What if You Had 175 Acres To Play Around With?

In the early days of development, the Cape Coral Country Club was one of the city’s calling cards. Potential land buyers would fly into the property which included a clubhouse, a hotel, an 18-hole golf course and tennis courts.

Anyone that purchased property in Cape Coral received a membership to the Country Club and the Yacht Club. That was the 1960’s. Today, both landmarks are gone and now being reimagined by the City and its residents.

Back in the early days, the golf course was so popular that the club hosted the 1972 NCAA men’s golf championship which featured a showdown between Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite. The clubhouse, with a ballroom upstairs, became a social gathering place.

The property, located on Palm Tree Blvd just off Cape Coral Pkwy across from Bimini Basin Project, was eventually sold by The Rosen Brothers and as the years went on, the golf course fell into disrepair and closed in 2006. That was followed by overgrown fairways, and attempts to purchase the land by the school district and at least one home builder.

In 2024, the City of Cape Coral was able to purchase the 175 acres for $10.5 million and began the process to mitigate the soil after years of chemical treatments. A timeline was established to determine the future of the property and on November 13th at 6PM residents will get their first chance to share their ideas on what they’d like to see the golf course become. We plan to broadcast that meeting live on our Facebook page and YouTube Channel.

Many ideas are already being floated; a botanical garden, waltzing waters, walking paths, green space, more pickleball courts. The city has a blank slate right now and the City Council wants your input.

Of course, once a plan is decided upon, where the funding will come from is the next big decision.

  1. My Father in law bought a condo at County club estates on Palm Tree blvd (that we now own) because of the location near the course. We would LOVE to have a golf course rebuilt. I can’t believe it wouldn’t be a popular thing. Sadly I know it’s not an option.
